Doctor of Ministry in Preaching

Do you want to be a Master Preacher? If so, Aquinas Institute of Theology’s Doctor of Ministry in Preaching program will help you become the kind of preacher the Church needs today. Grounded in the charism of the Order of Preachers, the Aquinas program is the only Catholic Doctorate in Preaching in existence, and its graduates hold leadership roles in preaching and teaching around the world.

The Aquinas cohort model is designed to accommodate a full-time priest, deacon, or lay minister’s busy schedule, including both in-person and virtual components where students work together in a close-knit, supportive community. Current program student Joann Waycaster says, “If you are considering pursuing an advanced ministry degree in the midst of real life, Aquinas Institute of Theology is the place to make it happen. At Aquinas Institute of Theology, I found a community committed not only to the highest level of scholarship, but to journeying with students, like me, who seek to navigate academics, along with the demands of full-time ministry and family life. Rooted in the Dominican tradition, Aquinas blends academics and practice, forming me to be the best preacher I can be. Grounded in the Gospel, Aquinas nurtures and supports not only my vocation as a preacher, but as an educator and parent as well.”

Doctor of Ministry in Preaching alumnus Fr. David Mowry has taught homiletics and seminary formation for 8 years, yet he explains, “The knowledge and experience I gained at Aquinas Institute have been invaluable to my ministry. The program equipped me as a teacher with an understanding of the theology of preaching and the interpretation of Scripture. What’s more, I improved as a preacher, thanks to the feedback from my peers and professors. Aquinas Institute gave me what I needed to prepare the next generation of preachers.”

Applications are now being accepted for the 2026 cohort, which begins in the summer of '26. For more information, visit www.ai.edu/DMin.
